Why should I see a Counseling Intern?

At Inner Peace Therapeutic Services, LLC (IPTS) we understand that taking the step to seek counseling can be overwhelming. You want a counselor you can trust, a counselor that you can be confident in to support you and provide you with quality care. Research has shown that a key component to the success of therapy is the therapeutic relationship that you have with your counselor. To provide reassurance and highlight the quality of care you will receive, here are five benefits of seeing a Counseling Intern.

    1. High-Quality, Supervised Care

Our counselor interns are graduate students in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling programs, bringing fresh perspectives and the latest academic knowledge to their practice. Each intern works under the direct supervision of experienced and licensed professionals, ensuring that you receive high-quality, supervised care. The intern has to receive one hour of weekly supervision with their site supervisor. Our Counseling Interns are supervised by Dr. Jacqui Grantland the owner of IPTS, who has over 20 years of counseling experience. In addition to receiving site supervision, they also attend weekly group supervision by their academic supervisor who is also a Ph.D.-level mental health clinician.

    2. Personalized and Attentive Support

Counselor interns are deeply committed to their professional development and client success. They bring a high level of enthusiasm and dedication to their work, often providing extra time and attention to their clients. They have a smaller caseload, which allows more time to prepare and research for your session, so you can expect personalized support tailored to your unique needs and goals, as interns are passionate about applying their skills and education to best service their clients.

    3. Evidence-Based Techniques

Our interns are trained in a variety of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and more. They are well-versed in the latest evidence-based techniques and are supervised to ensure these methods are applied effectively and appropriately. This ensures you receive treatment that is both current and grounded in proven practices.

    4. Affordable Counseling Services

Seeing a counselor intern can also be a more affordable option compared to working with fully licensed therapists. At Inner Peace, we strive to make mental health services accessible to all. By offering reduced fees for sessions with counselor interns, we ensure that cost is not a barrier to receiving the care you need. The cost of seeing an intern can be lower than your copay and is a viable option if your insurance isn’t accepted by other clinicians.

    5. Commitment to Professional Growth

Our counselor interns are committed to their professional growth and development. They regularly participate in supervision, training, and continuing education to enhance their skills and knowledge. This commitment to ongoing learning translates into a high level of care and dedication to their clients.

Choosing to see a counselor intern at Inner Peace Therapeutic Services means you are not only receiving quality care but also contributing to the growth and development of future mental health professionals. Our interns are dedicated to helping you navigate your mental health journey with empathy, respect, and professionalism. Some interns have prior experience in the mental health field, while others this may be a second career so they bring lifelong experience into the session.
